Does Your Family Use Safe Products?

Does your family use safe products? We're guessing no. Don't believe us? Check for yourself. EWG (The Environmental Working Group) has already done all the work for us.

Go to the links below, enter the name of the product or ingredient you are using today, and see what the independent research says.

Cosmetics
Hygiene Products

Ouch....That didn't go so well

See...told you. Did your search come back with any ingredients of moderate or even high concern? First of all, don't feel bad. We are all just doing the best we can with the information we have. Nobody has the time or energy to research every single ingredient in every single product they use. We all have the right to assume groups like the EPA and FDA are looking out for our best interests when products get approved to go to market - but what is their definition of "safe"? In many cases, it's a particular range or threshold and not banning the use of a harmful ingredient altogether. They may admit a particular substance could be harmful, but they deem the level of concentration to be below the line of what would impact a person's health. But is it really? And what about the impact on the planet after I throw it away or flush it down the drain?

But I've Always Used That. What Am I Supposed To Do Now?

You can't go back in time. What you can do is find a safe alternative to use from this day forward. Use the same links provided above to search for a generic product type like "lipstick" or "deodorant" and the results will come back with the safest options sorted to the top. They are rated on a scale of 1-10 with 1 being the safest. Even better than a 1 is when you see the seal marking the product as an EWG verified item. This means it has been verified that the product contains no ingredients of concern and that the company is fully transparent about their manufacturing practices. As of March 2019 EWG has verified over 1,300 products. See the whole list including any recent additions right here.

So What Do You Guys Use?

Our research lead us to find a company called Poofy Organics. The company was started in New Jersey (USA! USA!) in 2006 by a family who had been struck by cancer (just like all of ours have). Their search for products that contained absolutely no harmful chemicals and only safe all-natural ingredients lead them to the conclusion that they would be better off making these things themselves. So that's exactly what they did. They now make over 500 products using only organic options whenever possible (some ingredients have no organic certification available). We also like them because we are supporting a small, family run business. You hear the term "family owned and operated" in advertising all the time, but in this case Poofy literally has the owner's mother and daughters sticking labels on the products and shipping them out. It's all made in a legitimate facility and they have 15-20 employees now, but their original mission and values have remained the same.

As great as EWG and all the research they have done is, it would be a little tedious to get all these products from all over the place. Some are available in stores, some are not, and it would admittedly be a lot to keep up with. So we take the easy way out and get all our cleaning and hygiene products from the same place, knowing that we are ordering from a company 100% committed to our family's safety first. There are no shareholders to please or demands from retailers to cut corners to be able to offer a better price point.

Check out the links below to see all Poofy has to offer. There are all-natural, organic replacements for just about everything you use today. From bathroom products to makeup to even candles and essential oils, they pretty much do it all.
